^ (Plate VI). \ female statuette, recalling somewhat that discoveredat Brassempouy, but more complete, comes from the caveof Baousse-Rouss6 at Mentone. It is sculptured in ayellow slightly translucent steatite, and shows head, trunk,and thighs. The head is oval in shape, but no facialfeatures are shown. The forehead is retreating, and athick mass of hair falls on the neck much like that of somearchaic Greek statues (Fig. 53).
