Kommunevåpenet er "På blå bunn en sølv stjerne med seks odder."[1] Våpen er tegnet av Hallvard Trætteberg og ble tatt i bruk i 1957, som er det samme motivet som skjoldet til Olav den hellige. Det ble fornyet i 1964. Motivet ble først valgt fordi byen er møtested for seks veier: etter kommunesammenslåingen i 1964 fikk motivet ny betydning i og med at dagens kommune består av bykommunen og seks omkringliggende tidligere kommuner. |
