English: (A) In response to the presence of an environmental stimulus (1), microscopic hairs along the tail of the decapod activates a somatic signal (2). (B) The action potential activated by the somatic interneuron (3) relays an impulse to the lateral giant (LG) interneuron (4). (C) The lateral giant interneuron executes the reflex by relaying impulses to various giant motor neurons (5) within the abdomen of the lobster. These muscular contractions result in the decapod completing the caridoid escape reaction, successfully propelling itself through the water, away from the site of stimulus.
Français : (A) En réponse à la présence d'un stimulus environnemental (1), des poils microscopiques le long de la queue du décapode activent un signal somatique (2). (B) Le potentiel d'action activé par l'interneurone somatique (3) relaie une impulsion à l'interneuron géant latéral (LG) (4). (C) L'interneuron géant latéral exécute le réflexe en relayant des impulsions à divers neurones moteurs géants (5) dans l'abdomen du homard.
