Note
Note on the book from which this is taken:
William of Paris, O.P. fl 1473. This work is a guide to the excerpts from the Epistles and Evangelists read at church services throughout the year (the Lessons); it was first published in 1473. Its importance is shown by the fact that there were more than 100 incunable editions; if a reasonable estimate of 400 copies per edition is accepted, this suggests over 40,000 copies in circulation! Its author, however, is a mystery. He has been confused with William D'Auvergne; William of Paris, inquisitor and confessor; and the William who wrote a commentary on the Sacraments.
