English: First raising of the USA flag with the Louisiana Purchase, in the Place d'Armes (now Jackson Square), New Orleans. Ceremony was December 20, 1803. Painted by Thure de Thulstrup on commission to commemorate centennial of the event. The painting has been praised for the research and historical accuracy that went into the period depiction. On display in the Cabildo in New Orleans. |

Bellechasse; American troops saluting; in background Kentuckians and citizens, the Cathedral of 1794 and Hotel de Ville on gallery of which stands Laussat, Wikinson and Claiborne.
