COMT = catecholamine-O-methyltransferase, AADC = aromatic L-amino acid decarboxylase, CNS = central nervous system, MAO-B = monoamine oxidase B, DOPAC = 3,4-dihydroxyphenylacetic acid. 3-methoxytyrosine and DOPAC are inactive, dopamine in the periphery causes side effects but no antiparkinson effects, and dopamine in the CNS is responsible for the desired antiparkinson effects.
