Summary

Description
English: Interior of the People's Hall in Ercildoun, Pennsylvania. Please note the motto of the People's Hall on the arch above the stage "Let Truth and Error Grapple"

This building was constructed in 1845 by Quaker abolitionists involved in the Underground Railroad. The Mason-Dixon line is about 15 miles south.

The abolition society had previously met at the Quaker meetinghouse right next door, but they were refused the use of the meetinghouse after a group of anti-abolitionsists disrupted a meeting and the locations of abolitionist meetings were burned down in Philadelphia and Lancaster, Pennsylvania (both less than 40 miles away).

The group declared that "every question, creed, or race was welcome on our platform" .
