Tableau en cours de réalisation en décembre 1830 selon une lettre adressée par la Malibran au peintre, datée du 15 décembre de cette année-là et faisant allusion à une séance de pose prochaine (Bibliothèque de l'INHA, fonds de la Bibliothèque Centrale des Musées Nationaux, Ms. 477, fol. 1–6).

Legs de Robert Maupoil (Paris 1909–1992), arrière-petit-fils de Pauline Viardot, soeur de la Malibran, et arrière petit-neveu de la Malibran (testament et codicille des 21 décembre 1989 et 13 octobre 1990) au musée du Louvre.
