Object history
Deutsch: Die Herkunft des Buches als Wappensymbol ist nicht bekannt. Es wurde gelegentlich auch als „redendes Wappen“ bezeichnet, weil man angenommen hatte, der Stadtname Bochum komme vom Wort Buch. Dies konnte jedoch nicht bestätigt werden. Tatsächlich waren es wohl die Bochum umgebenden Buchenwälder, die der Stadt zu ihrem Namen verholfen haben. Der rot-silberne Balken stammt aus dem alten Wattenscheider Wappen.
