excisional biopsy - (pronounced) (ek-SIH-zhuh-nul BY-op-see) A surgical procedure in which an incision is made through the skin to remove an entire lump or suspicious area so that it can be examined under a microscope for signs of disease. A small amount of healthy tissue around the abnormal area may also be removed
