Distance Learning (pronunciation: /ˈdɪstəns ˈlɜːrnɪŋ/) is a method of studying in which lectures are broadcast or classes are conducted by correspondence or over the Internet, without the student's needing to be physically present in a classroom.
Etymology
The term "distance learning" originated in the early 20th century in the United States, where educational materials were mailed to students in remote areas. The term became more popularized with the advent of the Internet and the ability to deliver educational content digitally.
