Apple Pencil[edit]
The Apple Pencil is a line of wireless stylus pen accessories designed and manufactured by Apple Inc. for use with supported iPad tablets. The Apple Pencil is designed to work with the iPad's touchscreen to provide a more precise and natural drawing and writing experience.
History[edit]
The first-generation Apple Pencil was announced alongside the first iPad Pro in September 2015. It was designed to offer a high level of precision and low latency, making it suitable for artists, designers, and note-takers. The second-generation Apple Pencil was introduced in 2018 with the third-generation iPad Pro, featuring a new design and additional features.
Design[edit]
The Apple Pencil is cylindrical in shape and resembles a traditional pencil. The first-generation model has a removable cap that conceals a Lightning connector for charging. The second-generation model attaches magnetically to the side of the iPad Pro for charging and storage, eliminating the need for a connector.
Features[edit]
The Apple Pencil offers pressure sensitivity, tilt detection, and palm rejection, allowing users to draw lines of varying thickness and shading. The second-generation model introduced a double-tap feature that allows users to switch between tools or activate other functions.
Compatibility[edit]
The first-generation Apple Pencil is compatible with the following iPad models:
- iPad Pro (12.9-inch) 1st and 2nd generation
- iPad Pro (10.5-inch)
- iPad Pro (9.7-inch)
- iPad (6th generation and later)
- iPad Air (3rd generation)
- iPad mini (5th generation)
The second-generation Apple Pencil is compatible with:
- iPad Pro (12.9-inch) 3rd generation and later
- iPad Pro (11-inch) 1st generation and later
