Applied science (/əˈplaɪd ˈsaɪəns/) is a discipline that applies existing scientific knowledge to develop more practical applications, such as technology or inventions.
Etymology
The term "applied science" comes from the application of scientific knowledge transferred into a physical environment. The term "apply" comes from the Old French apliquer which means "to put to use." The term "science" comes from the Latin scientia meaning "knowledge."
