Active Power (pronunciation: /ˈæk.tɪv ˈpaʊ.ər/), also known as Real Power, is a term used in Physics and Electrical Engineering to describe the actual power in an electric circuit. The term originates from the Latin words 'actus', meaning 'a doing', and 'potentia', meaning 'power'.
Definition
Active Power is the real power consumed by the electrical equipment to do useful work. It is measured in Watts (W) or Kilowatts (kW). It is the product of the voltage (V), current (I), and the power factor (cosφ).

The formula to calculate Active Power (P) is:
P = VIcosφ
