The Academy of Medical Sciences (pronunciation: a-ka-de-mee of med-i-kal sai-en-ses) is a professional body for medical scientists, dedicated to advancing the medical sciences and promoting developments in health policy, medical education and public understanding of medicine.

The term "Academy" originates from the Greek word "Akadēmía", a place of study or training. "Medical" is derived from the Latin "medicus", meaning "physician". "Sciences" comes from the Latin "scientia", meaning "knowledge".
