Academic Medicine

Academic Medicine (pronounced: a·ca·dem·ic med·i·cine, /əˌkædəˈmɪk ˈmɛdɪsɪn/) is a branch of medicine that is concerned with the education and training of medical students, residents, and fellows, the discovery of new knowledge through research, and the provision of patient care by faculty members. It is practiced in medical schools and teaching hospitals.

Etymology

The term "Academic Medicine" is derived from the Latin words "Academia" meaning 'school' and "Medicina" meaning 'healing art'. It refers to the practice of medicine in an educational setting, often affiliated with a university or other higher education institution.
