3',4'-Dimethoxy-α-Pyrrolidinopentiophenone

From WikiMD's medical encyclopedia

3',4'-Dimethoxy-α-Pyrrolidinopentiophenone (3',4'-DMAPP) is a psychoactive drug and research chemical that belongs to the cathinone class. It is a synthetic stimulant of the cathinone class developed in the middle of the 20th century.

Chemistry

3',4'-DMAPP is a cathinone, which is a category of drugs related to the natural plant khat. Cathinones are a sub-category of amphetamines, sharing the core amphetamine structure of a phenyl ring bound to an amino (NH2) group through an ethyl chain with an additional methyl substitution at Rα.

Pharmacology

The mechanism of action for 3',4'-DMAPP is not well understood. It is believed to work primarily as a norepinephrine-dopamine reuptake inhibitor (NDRI), preventing the reuptake of these neurotransmitters to increase their concentration in the brain. This leads to increased stimulation, energy, and euphoria.

Effects

The effects of 3',4'-DMAPP can vary greatly depending on the dose, individual physiology, and method of administration. Common effects include stimulation, euphoria, increased alertness, and increased sociability. At higher doses, it can cause anxiety, paranoia, and hallucinations.

Legal Status

The legal status of 3',4'-DMAPP varies by country. In many countries, it is a controlled substance due to its potential for abuse and addiction.
