Filter is a device or process that removes some unwanted substances or features from a signal by suppressing some of its frequencies. Filters are commonly used in many different applications, including in the fields of electronics, mathematics, and physics.

In the context of electronics, a filter is a device that passes electric signals at certain frequencies or frequency ranges while preventing the passage of others.   • Band-stop filter - Also known as a band-reject or notch filter, this type of filter attenuates signals within a certain frequency range and allows signals outside that range to pass through.
