UPMC Braddock Hospital was a full-service hospital located at 400 Holland Avenue in Braddock, Pennsylvania, United States. It served as a primary care facility for the Steel Valley and areas part of the Woodland Hills School District, catering to over 25 Monongahela Valley communities. The hospital, which opened in 1906, was merged into the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC) in 1996. However, due to financial losses and alleged underutilization, UPMC made the controversial decision to close UPMC Braddock on January 31, 2010. The closure sparked allegations of civil rights violations, as the hospital was located in a predominantly black community. The Office for Civil Rights of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services conducted an investigation into the closure. UPMC Braddock ceased accepting patients on January 15, 2010, and officially closed on January 31, 2010.
