Glucosyltransferase

Glucosyltransferase is an enzyme that catalyzes the transfer of glucose residues from a donor molecule to an acceptor molecule. This process is known as glycosylation. Mutations in the genes encoding glucosyltransferases can lead to various diseases. For example, defects in the glucosyltransferase responsible for the synthesis of glycogen can lead to Pompe disease, a rare genetic disorder characterized by muscle weakness and respiratory problems.
