Komi is a term that refers to a group of people who reside in the northeastern part of Europe, specifically in the Komi Republic and Perm Krai of Russia. The Komi people are known for their unique culture, language, and history.

History

The history of the Komi people dates back to the 1st millennium AD. They have been known by various names throughout history, including Zyrians in the 19th and early 20th centuries. Language

The Komi people speak the Komi language, which is a member of the Uralic language family. There are two main dialects of the Komi language: Komi-Zyrian, which is spoken by the majority of Komi people, and Komi-Permyak, which is spoken in Perm Krai.

Demographics

As of the 2010 Russian Census, there were approximately 293,000 Komi people living in Russia. The majority of Komi people live in the Komi Republic, with smaller populations in Perm Krai and other regions of Russia.
