American Academy of Emergency Medicine (AAEM) is a professional organization dedicated to the advancement of emergency medicine. It was established in 1993 and is based in the United States. The AAEM is committed to promoting high standards of patient care, professional ethics, and the fair treatment of emergency physicians.

History[edit]

The American Academy of Emergency Medicine was founded in 1993 by a group of emergency physicians who felt that the needs and concerns of individual emergency physicians were not being adequately addressed by the existing organizations in the field. The founding members of the AAEM believed that every individual should have access to high-quality emergency care provided by a specialist in emergency medicine.

Mission[edit]

The mission of the AAEM is to promote the highest quality of patient-centered care in the field of emergency medicine. This is achieved through a commitment to the professional growth and development of its members, advocacy for the rights of emergency physicians, and the promotion of research and education in emergency medicine.

Membership[edit]

Membership in the AAEM is open to all physicians who have completed an accredited residency in emergency medicine or pediatric emergency medicine. The organization also offers associate membership to physicians who are currently enrolled in an accredited emergency medicine residency program.

Activities[edit]

The AAEM organizes a variety of activities aimed at promoting the professional development of its members and advancing the field of emergency medicine. These include an annual scientific assembly, regional meetings, and a variety of educational programs and resources. The AAEM also publishes the Journal of Emergency Medicine, a peer-reviewed medical journal that covers the field of emergency medicine.

Advocacy[edit]

The AAEM is actively involved in advocacy efforts on behalf of emergency physicians and their patients. This includes lobbying for legislation and regulations that protect the rights of emergency physicians and promote the highest standards of patient care.
