Amlodipine/olmesartan
Amlodipine/olmesartan is a medication that combines two active ingredients, amlodipine and olmesartan, to treat high blood pressure. It belongs to the class of drugs known as calcium channel blockers and angiotensin II receptor antagonists.
Mechanism of Action[edit]
Amlodipine works by relaxing the blood vessels, allowing blood to flow more easily. Olmesartan, on the other hand, blocks the action of a substance in the body that increases blood pressure.
Uses[edit]
This combination medication is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension). Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems.
Side Effects[edit]
Common side effects of amlodipine/olmesartan include dizziness, lightheadedness, swelling ankles/feet, or flushing. Serious side effects include fainting, symptoms of a high potassium blood level (such as muscle weakness, slow/irregular heartbeat), signs of kidney problems (such as change in the amount of urine).
Precautions[edit]
Before taking this medication, inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are allergic to amlodipine or olmesartan, or if you have any other allergies. This product may contain inactive ingredients, which can cause allergic reactions or other problems.
