Treitz's most notable contribution to medicine was his detailed description of the suspensory muscle of the duodenum, which plays a crucial role in the digestive system by supporting the duodenojejunal flexure. This anatomical structure is now commonly referred to as the "ligament of Treitz."

Treitz's work extended beyond the discovery of the ligament that bears his name. He was involved in extensive research on the gastrointestinal tract and made significant contributions to the understanding of intestinal obstruction and other abdominal pathologies. His research helped lay the foundation for modern gastrointestinal surgery and diagnostics.

Legacy[edit]

Václav Treitz's contributions to medicine have had a lasting impact on the field of anatomy and pathology. The ligament of Treitz remains a critical anatomical landmark in both surgical and radiological practices. His work continues to be studied and referenced by medical professionals and students worldwide.
