Early life and education

Medical career

Travers began his medical career as an apprentice to Astley Cooper, a leading figure in British surgery. He later attended St Thomas' Hospital, where he completed his medical training. In 1807, Travers was appointed as a surgeon to the London Infirmary for Curing Diseases of the Eye and Ear, which later became known as the Royal London Ophthalmic Hospital.

Contributions to ophthalmology

Travers made significant contributions to the field of ophthalmology, particularly in the understanding and treatment of eye diseases. He published several influential works, including "A Synopsis of the Diseases of the Eye," which became a standard reference for ophthalmologists of the time.
