The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) is a public medical school in Little Rock, Arkansas. It is part of the University of Arkansas System and is the only academic health sciences university in the state of Arkansas. History

The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences was established in 1879 as a medical department of the University of Arkansas. Originally located in a small building in Little Rock, the institution has grown significantly over the years. In 1951, the medical school moved to its current location on West Markham Street.
