Pahang
Pahang is the third largest state in Malaysia and is located on the eastern coast of Peninsular Malaysia. It is bordered by the South China Sea to the east, and the states of Terengganu to the north, Perak to the west, and Selangor to the northwest. The state capital is Kuantan, which is also the largest city in Pahang.
History[edit]
Pahang's history dates back to prehistoric times, with evidence of early human habitation found in the form of cave paintings in the Taman Negara national park. The state was later part of the Srivijaya empire and the Majapahit empire. In the 15th century, Pahang became a part of the Malacca Sultanate, and later the Johor Sultanate.
Geography[edit]
Pahang is characterized by its diverse geography, which includes highlands, rainforests, and coastal areas. The Titiwangsa Mountains, part of the larger Tenasserim Hills range, run through the state, and the highest peak in Peninsular Malaysia, Mount Tahan, is located in Pahang.
Economy[edit]
The economy of Pahang is largely based on agriculture and tourism. The state is one of the largest producers of palm oil in Malaysia, and also produces rubber, timber, and pepper. Tourism is a significant sector, with attractions such as the Cameron Highlands, Genting Highlands, and Taman Negara drawing visitors from around the world.
Culture[edit]
Pahang's culture is a blend of Malay, Chinese, Indian, and indigenous influences. The state is known for its traditional arts and crafts, such as batik printing and songket weaving, as well as its traditional music and dance forms, such as gamelan and wayang kulit.
Cuisine[edit]
Pahang's cuisine is diverse and influenced by the various ethnic groups in the state. Notable dishes include Patin tempoyak, a fermented durian dish with river catfish, and Lemang, a traditional Malay dish made of glutinous rice and coconut milk cooked in bamboo.
