Mostar is a city and municipality in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the largest and one of the most important cities in the Herzegovina region. It is the center of the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
History[edit]
Mostar was named after the bridge keepers (mostari) who in the medieval times guarded the Stari Most ("Old Bridge") over the Neretva River. The Old Bridge, built by the Ottoman Empire in the 16th century, is one of Bosnia and Herzegovina's most recognizable landmarks and is considered a symbol of Mostar.
Geography[edit]
Mostar is situated on the Neretva River and is surrounded by the Dinaric Alps. The city is known for its Mediterranean climate, with hot summers and mild, rainy winters.
Demographics[edit]
According to the 2013 census, Mostar has a population of 113,169 inhabitants. The city is ethnically diverse, with Bosniaks, Croats, and Serbs being the main ethnic groups.

Mostar's economy is based on industries such as aluminum and metal processing, banking, and telecommunications. The city is also a significant tourist destination, attracting visitors to its historic sites and natural beauty.
