Firefighting apparatus refers to the collection of tools, equipment, and vehicles used by firefighters to combat fires, rescue individuals, and mitigate other hazardous situations. The apparatus includes a wide range of equipment, from fire engines and fire trucks to fire hoses, fire extinguishers, and personal protective equipment (PPE).

Fire Engines[edit]

A fire engine, also known as a fire pumper, is a vehicle designed for firefighting operations. It is equipped with a powerful pump that can deliver water to extinguish fires. The fire engine also carries a variety of tools and equipment, including fire hoses, nozzles, and fire axes.

Fire Trucks[edit]

Fire trucks are larger vehicles that carry additional equipment not carried by a fire engine. This includes ladders, hydraulic rescue tools (often referred to as the "Jaws of Life"), and other specialized equipment. Fire trucks may also have a platform or bucket at the end of a long ladder for reaching high places.

Fire Hoses[edit]

A fire hose is a high-pressure hose used to carry water or other fire retardant materials to a fire. Fire hoses come in various diameters and lengths, and can be attached to a fire engine's pump or a fire hydrant.

Fire Extinguishers[edit]

Fire extinguishers are portable devices used to extinguish small fires. They work by releasing a substance that cools the burning material, deprives the fire of oxygen, or interferes with the chemical reactions occurring in the fire.

Personal Protective Equipment[edit]

Personal protective equipment (PPE) for firefighters includes firefighting helmets, firefighting boots, firefighting gloves, and firefighting suits. These items protect firefighters from the heat, flames, and other hazards they may encounter during firefighting operations.
