The Haida people are an indigenous group native to the Pacific Northwest Coast of North America. They are known for their rich cultural heritage, including their art, language, and traditional practices.

History[edit]

The Haida have inhabited the Haida Gwaii archipelago for thousands of years. Their society was traditionally organized into two main groups, the Raven and Eagle clans, which played a significant role in their social structure and cultural practices.

Culture[edit]

Haida culture is renowned for its Haida art, which includes totem poles, carvings, and weaving. The Haida are also known for their oral traditions and storytelling, which preserve their history and cultural knowledge.

Language[edit]

The Haida language is a language isolate, meaning it is not known to be related to any other language family. Efforts are ongoing to revitalize the language among the Haida people.

Economy[edit]

Traditionally, the Haida economy was based on fishing, hunting, and gathering. They were skilled maritime people, known for their canoes and seafaring abilities.

Modern Day[edit]

Today, the Haida people continue to live in their traditional territories in Haida Gwaii and Alaska. They are actively involved in the preservation of their culture and the management of their natural resources.
