Lunchables is a brand of food and snack products produced by Kraft Heinz. Introduced in 1988, Lunchables offers pre-packaged, ready-to-eat lunches designed primarily for school-aged children. The product line includes a variety of combinations, such as crackers, cheeses, and meats, as well as pizza, chicken nuggets, and small hot dogs. Some Lunchables also include a small dessert, such as a candy bar or cookies.

History

Kraft Heinz introduced Lunchables in 1988 as a way to increase lunch meat sales. The concept was inspired by bento boxes, a type of packed meal popular in Japanese cuisine. Lunchables quickly gained popularity due to their convenience and kid-friendly appeal. Over the years, the brand has expanded to include a wide variety of meal combinations and has introduced new lines targeted at older children and adults.

Products

Lunchables offers a range of products, each containing different combinations of food items. The original Lunchables included a stack of cheese, crackers, and lunch meat. Today, the product line includes a variety of meals, such as pizza kits, chicken nuggets, and hot dogs. Some Lunchables also include a drink and a dessert, such as a candy bar or cookies.

Lunchables with Drink

In 1990, Lunchables introduced a line of products that included a Capri Sun beverage. These Lunchables typically include a main course, a side, a Capri Sun drink, and a dessert.

Lunchables Uploaded

In 2013, Lunchables introduced the Uploaded line, which is targeted at older children and teenagers. These Lunchables include larger portions and more sophisticated combinations, such as chicken poppers, deep dish pizza, and sub sandwiches.

Nutrition

Lunchables have been criticized for their high sodium and fat content. In response to these criticisms, Kraft Heinz has made efforts to improve the nutritional content of Lunchables by reducing sodium and fat levels and adding fruit in some products.

In popular culture

Lunchables have been featured in various forms of media, including television commercials and movies. They have become a symbol of childhood and nostalgia for many people who grew up in the 1990s and early 2000s.
