Baorangia bicolor
Baorangia bicolor[edit]
Baorangia bicolor is a species of mushroom belonging to the family Agaricaceae. It is commonly known as the two-colored bolete due to its distinct coloration. This mushroom is found in various regions around the world, including North America, Europe, and Asia.
Description[edit]
Baorangia bicolor has a unique appearance that sets it apart from other mushrooms. The cap of this species is convex when young, but becomes flat or slightly depressed with age. It typically measures between 5 and 15 centimeters in diameter. The cap color varies from reddish-brown to dark brown, with a distinct lighter-colored margin.
The stem of Baorangia bicolor is cylindrical and often tapers towards the base. It can reach a height of 8 to 15 centimeters and has a diameter of 1 to 2 centimeters. The stem color is usually lighter than the cap, ranging from yellowish-brown to reddish-brown.
The underside of the cap features closely spaced, angular pores that are yellow when young and turn olive-green as the mushroom matures. These pores are an important characteristic for identifying Baorangia bicolor.
Habitat and Distribution[edit]
Baorangia bicolor is commonly found in deciduous and coniferous forests, often growing in association with trees such as oak, beech, and pine. It prefers well-drained soil and is typically found in late summer and early fall.
This mushroom species has a wide distribution, being found in various parts of the world. It has been reported in North America, Europe, and Asia, including countries such as the United States, Canada, Germany, Poland, China, and Japan.
Edibility[edit]
Baorangia bicolor is considered edible and is consumed in some regions. However, it is important to note that proper identification is crucial when foraging for mushrooms, as there are similar-looking species that may be toxic or inedible.
