Ajay Kakkar, Baron Kakkar

Ajay Kakkar, Baron Kakkar is a British professor of surgery, specializing in the field of thrombosis and haemostasis. He is also a member of the House of Lords, where he sits as a crossbencher.

Early Life and Education

Ajay Kakkar was born in 1964. He completed his early education in the United Kingdom. He then went on to study medicine at King's College London, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree.

Career

After completing his medical degree, Kakkar trained in general surgery and vascular surgery. He then specialized in the field of thrombosis and haemostasis. He is currently a professor of surgery at University College London and the director of the Thrombosis Research Institute in London.

In addition to his medical career, Kakkar is also involved in politics. In 2010, he was made a life peer as Baron Kakkar, of Loxbeare in the County of Devon, and was introduced in the House of Lords, where he sits as a crossbencher.

Research

Kakkar's research focuses on the prevention and treatment of venous and arterial thromboembolic disease. His work has contributed significantly to the understanding of the role of blood coagulation in cancer progression.

Honours and Awards

In recognition of his contributions to medicine and public service, Kakkar has received several honours and awards. These include the appointment as a Knight Bachelor in the 2014 New Year Honours for services to surgery.
