History
Manhattan was founded on November 1, 1683, and was named after the Manhattan people, one of the indigenous tribes that lived in the area. The name "Manhattan" comes from the Munsee dialect of the Lenape language, and means "island of many hills".

Culture
Manhattan is known for its vibrant cultural scene. The borough is home to many world-class museums, art galleries, and theaters. The Broadway Theater District in Manhattan is one of the world's premier locations for theater.
Education
Manhattan is home to numerous universities, colleges, and other institutions of higher education, including Columbia University, New York University, and Fordham University.
