It serves as the medical campus for Columbia University and houses the university's College of Physicians and Surgeons, College of Dental Medicine, School of Nursing, and Mailman School of Public Health. CUIMC is also closely affiliated with NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital, one of the leading hospitals in the United States.

History[edit]

The origins of Columbia University Irving Medical Center date back to 1767 when King's College (the original name of Columbia University) founded the first medical school in the American colonies to award the MD degree. Over the centuries, the institution has evolved, moving to its current location in Washington Heights in the early 20th century. The medical center was renamed in 2016 in honor of a generous donation from the Irving family, aimed at supporting innovative medical research and patient care.

The College of Dental Medicine offers DDS programs, postdoctoral residencies, and dental research opportunities. The Mailman School of Public Health offers MPH, MHA, MS, PhD, and DrPH degrees in various public health disciplines.

Researchers at CUIMC have access to cutting-edge facilities and resources, including the Irving Institute for Clinical and Translational Research, which fosters collaboration between researchers and clinicians to accelerate the development of new therapies and medical technologies.

Patient Care[edit]

The medical center is equipped with advanced diagnostic and treatment technologies, ensuring that patients receive state-of-the-art care. Specialized centers and programs at CUIMC include the Herbert Irving Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Celiac Disease Center, and the Center for Heart Disease.
