The United States Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) is the corporate research laboratory for the United States Navy and the United States Marine Corps. It conducts a broad program of scientific research, technology, and advanced development. NRL is located in Washington, D.C., and is a part of the Office of Naval Research.
History[edit]
The concept of a naval research laboratory was first proposed by Thomas Edison in 1915. The laboratory was established in 1923, with the aim of conducting research and development for the Navy.
