Osem (company)
Osem Investments Ltd. (Hebrew: אֹסֶם השקעות בע"מ) is one of the largest food manufacturers and distributors in Israel. The group is majority (53.8%) owned by Nestlé S.A. of Switzerland. Before it was acquired by Nestlé, the company was publicly traded and listed on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange. It is a constituent of the TA-35 Index.
History[edit]
Osem was established in 1942 as a maker of food products by a group of seven food retailers. The company's name is a biblical term for a food that the Israelites ate while in the desert following the Exodus from Egypt. In Hebrew, "Osem" means "Substance of Life".
Products[edit]
Osem produces a large variety of food products and brands. Some of the key products include Bamba, Bissli, soup powders, bouillon cubes, soup mix, croutons, couscous, rice, pasta, and breakfast cereals. Osem also owns and operates the subsidiary Tivall, which produces vegetarian food products.
