Kelsey-Seybold Clinic
The Kelsey-Seybold Clinic is a large multi-specialty clinic system located in Greater Houston with its administrative headquarters in Shadow Creek Ranch, Pearland, Texas. The clinic system is a major provider of healthcare for NASA and a center for healthcare research.
History[edit]
The Kelsey-Seybold Clinic was founded in 1949 by Dr. Mavis P. Kelsey with the purpose of combining primary and specialty medical services in one location in Houston, based on the Mayo Clinic model. Dr. Kelsey leased space in the Hermann Professional Building and welcomed Dr. William D. Seybold and Dr. William V. Leary to the practice. Dr. Kelsey's brother, John R. Kelsey, Jr., also joined the practice in 1953. The clinic expanded its team of specialists and departments throughout the 1960s. In 1964, the clinic moved into new facilities at 6624 Fannin, which is now the St. Luke's Medical Tower. The clinic's name was changed to Kelsey-Seybold Clinic when Dr. Leary joined the staff of M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in 1965. The Kelsey-Seybold Clinic has been a leading provider of multi-specialty healthcare in Houston for over half a century.
The Kelsey-Seybold Clinic is affiliated with Baylor College of Medicine and UTHealth through its affiliation with Baylor St. Luke's Medical Center. It operates Level II trauma centers located throughout Houston. The clinic system is AAAHC certified and has over 1200 beds in related hospitals.
The Kelsey-Seybold Clinic is involved in healthcare research through the Kelsey Foundation, which was established in 1956 to provide scholarships and financial support for research. The foundation collaborates with universities, pharmaceutical companies, government bodies, and hospitals in the Texas Medical Center on research projects in areas such as cancer, epilepsy, cardiology, diabetes, and obstetrics.
