Kraft Foods Inc. was an American multinational confectionery, food and beverage conglomerate. It marketed many brands in more than 170 countries. 12 of its brands annually earned more than $1 billion worldwide: Cadbury, Jacobs, Kraft, LU, Maxwell House, Milka, Nabisco, Oreo, Oscar Mayer, Philadelphia, Trident, and Tang. Forty of its brands were at least a century old.

History[edit]

The company was founded as National Dairy Products Corporation in 1923 by Thomas H. McInnerney. The company was listed on the New York Stock Exchange; its majority owner was the private equity firm, Kohlberg Kravis Roberts (KKR). The company operated in more than 170 countries and had 223,000 employees worldwide.

Brands[edit]

Kraft Foods owned many brands in different areas of the food industry. Some of the most well-known include:

  • Cadbury: A British multinational confectionery company wholly owned by Kraft Foods since 2010.
  • Jacobs: A brand of coffee that traces its beginnings to 1895 in Germany by Johann Jacobs.
  • Maxwell House: A brand of coffee manufactured by a like-named division of Kraft Foods.
  • Oreo: A brand of cookie usually consisting of two chocolate wafers with a sweet creme filling in between.
  • Oscar Mayer: An American meat and cold cut production company owned by Kraft Foods.
