Livingood House-Stryker Hospital is a historic medical facility located in Kalamazoo, Michigan. The hospital was established in the late 19th century and has played a significant role in the development of the city's healthcare system.

History[edit]

The Livingood House-Stryker Hospital was built in 1895 by Dr. John E. Stryker, a prominent local physician. The hospital was originally a private residence known as the Livingood House, named after its first owner, George Livingood. In 1910, Dr. Stryker purchased the property and converted it into a hospital.

Architecture[edit]

The Livingood House-Stryker Hospital is a two-story, brick building designed in the Queen Anne style of architecture. The building features a distinctive tower, a wrap-around porch, and a large bay window. The interior of the hospital retains many of its original features, including the hardwood floors, fireplaces, and stained glass windows.

Medical Services[edit]

Throughout its history, the Livingood House-Stryker Hospital has provided a wide range of medical services to the community. These include general surgery, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, and internal medicine. The hospital also has a long history of training medical students and residents from the nearby University of Michigan Medical School.

Legacy[edit]

Today, the Livingood House-Stryker Hospital is recognized as a historic landmark by the National Register of Historic Places. The hospital continues to serve the community, providing high-quality healthcare services and contributing to the city's rich medical history.
