Francis Sacheverel Darwin
Francis Sacheverel Darwin (17 June 1786 – 24 November 1859), was an English physician. He was the son of Erasmus Darwin and his second wife Elizabeth and the half-brother of Charles Darwin.
Early Life and Education[edit]
Francis Sacheverel Darwin was born on 17 June 1786. He was the son of Erasmus Darwin and his second wife Elizabeth. His half-brother was Charles Darwin, the famous naturalist. Francis was educated at Christ's College, Cambridge.
Career[edit]
Francis Sacheverel Darwin followed in his father's footsteps and became a physician. He practiced medicine in Lichfield and Derby.
Personal Life[edit]
Francis Sacheverel Darwin married Jane Harriet Ryle, with whom he had two sons and two daughters. His son, Reginald Darwin, became a notable barrister.
Death[edit]
Francis Sacheverel Darwin died on 24 November 1859.
Legacy[edit]
Francis Sacheverel Darwin's life and work have been overshadowed by his more famous half-brother, Charles Darwin. However, his contributions to medicine in the towns of Lichfield and Derby are remembered.
