Early life and education[edit]

Emma Natasha Walmsley was born on 6 June 1969 in Barrow-in-Furness, England. She attended St Swithun's School, an independent school for girls in Winchester, Hampshire. Walmsley later studied at University of Oxford, where she earned a degree in Classics.

After graduating from university, Walmsley began her career at L'Oréal, where she worked for 17 years in various roles. Her work at L'Oréal included positions in marketing and general management, and she spent time working in Paris, London, and New York City.
GlaxoSmithKline[edit]
In 2010, Walmsley joined GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) as the head of the consumer healthcare division. Her leadership in this role was marked by a focus on innovation and expanding the company's product portfolio. In 2016, she was appointed as the CEO of GSK, becoming the first woman to lead a major pharmaceutical company.
