The Non-GMO Project was founded in 2007 by two natural food retailers, The Natural Grocery Company and The Big Carrot Natural Food Market. The initiative was created in response to growing consumer demand for non-GMO products and the lack of mandatory labeling of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in food products in the United States and Canada.
