Montreal Heart Institute

The Montreal Heart Institute (MHI) (French: Institut de Cardiologie de Montréal) is a specialty hospital located in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. It is affiliated with the Université de Montréal Faculty of Medicine and is dedicated to the development of cardiology. Founded in 1954 by Paul David, the MHI is considered one of the largest cardiology institutes in the world and the first educational hospital on cardiovascular diseases in Canada. It is also ranked as one of the largest preventive medicine centers in Quebec.

The MHI has received significant support from prominent Montreal businessman J. Louis Levesque, who made a $1 million donation in 1969 that doubled the research department's budget. Levesque continued to support the Institute for over 25 years, donating more than $10 million.

In terms of research, the MHI has been ranked as the number one research hospital in Canada for researcher intensity and research expenditure per researcher. This recognition was given in the 2015 list of "Canada's Top 40 Research Hospitals" published by Research Infosource.
