Gray birch
Gray birch (betula populifolia) grows to 20-30 feet. Does well in poor soils. The white, non-peeling bark becomes darker with age. Dark-green leaves turn yellow in fall. Its trunks are so flexible that when weighted with snow, the upper branches may bend to the ground without breaking. Good for naturalizing. Full sun. Moist soil. Zone 5 native
