Boldione, also known as 1,4-androstadiene-3,17-dione or androsta-1,4-diene-3,17-dione, is a steroid that has been sold on the Internet as a performance-enhancing substance. It is a direct precursor of the anabolic steroid boldenone. Boldione is not a controlled substance in the United States.

Chemistry

Boldione is an androstane steroid that is obtained by oxidation of testosterone. It is a ketone that consists of androstane bearing two oxo substituents at positions 3 and 17. It has a role as a human metabolite.

Pharmacology

Boldione itself is not an anabolic steroid, but it can be converted in the body to boldenone, an anabolic steroid. Boldenone has been shown to have potent anabolic effects on the body, including increased muscle mass and strength.

Legal status

In the United States, boldione is not a controlled substance, which means it is legal to possess and use. However, it is considered a prohormone, which are substances that the body can convert into active steroids. The sale of prohormones was banned in the United States in 2014, but boldione is still available for purchase on the internet.

Health risks

Like other anabolic steroids, boldione can have serious side effects, especially when used in high doses or for long periods of time. These can include liver damage, heart disease, and psychiatric effects such as aggression and mood swings. It can also cause masculinization in women, including deepening of the voice and growth of body hair.
