US Foods Holding Corp. is an American foodservice distributor. With approximately 25,000 employees and more than 70 locations, the company provides its services to independent and multi-unit restaurants, healthcare and hospitality entities, government and educational institutions. US Foods is headquartered in Rosemont, Illinois.

History

US Foods traces its roots back to the 19th century. The company was formed through the merger of several regional foodservice distributors. In 1989, the company was known as JP Foodservice and went public in 1994. In 1997, JP Foodservice acquired Rykoff-Sexton, Inc., and the company was renamed U.S. Foodservice.

In 2007, the company was acquired by the private equity firms Clayton, Dubilier & Rice and Kohlberg Kravis Roberts. In 2011, the company rebranded itself as US Foods. In 2015, Sysco Corporation attempted to acquire US Foods, but the merger was blocked by the Federal Trade Commission due to antitrust concerns.

Operations

US Foods operates a network of distribution centers across the United States. The company offers a wide range of products, including fresh, frozen, and dry food items, as well as non-food items such as kitchen equipment and cleaning supplies. US Foods also provides technology solutions to help its customers manage their operations more efficiently.

Products and Services

US Foods offers a variety of products under its own brands, including Chef’s Line, Metro Deli, and Monarch. The company also provides value-added services such as menu planning, culinary training, and business consulting.
