Hatboro is a borough in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 8,028 at the 2020 census. Hatboro is part of the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

History[edit]

Hatboro was established in 1715 and incorporated in 1871. The borough's name is derived from early resident John Dawson's profession as a hat maker. The borough is home to several historic sites, including the Union Library Company of Hatboro, which was founded in 1755 and is one of the oldest libraries in the United States.

. According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 1.4 square miles (3.6 km²), all of it land.

Demographics[edit]

As of the 2020 census, there were 8,028 people, 3,500 households, and 2,100 families residing in the borough. The population density was 5,734.3 people per square mile (2,214.7/km²). The racial makeup of the borough was predominantly White, with smaller percentages of African American, Asian, and other races.

Education[edit]

Hatboro is served by the Hatboro-Horsham School District. The district includes Hatboro-Horsham High School, which serves students from both Hatboro and the neighboring Horsham Township.

Transportation[edit]

Hatboro is accessible via several major roads, including Pennsylvania Route 263 and Pennsylvania Route 332. Public transportation is provided by the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority (SEPTA), which operates bus routes and the Hatboro station on the Warminster Line.
