Elk Point is a city in Union County, South Dakota, United States. It is part of the Sioux City metropolitan area. The population was 1,963 at the 2020 census. Elk Point is the county seat of Union County.
History[edit]
Elk Point was first settled in 1859. The city was named for the elk seen in the area. Elk Point has a rich history as a trading post and was a significant location during the Lewis and Clark Expedition.

Demographics[edit]

The racial makeup of the city was predominantly White, with small percentages of African American, Native American, Asian, and other races.
