List of Kebabs

The term "kebab" refers to a variety of meat dishes originating in the Middle East, and now popular worldwide. Kebabs are typically cooked on a skewer over a fire, but some kebab dishes are baked in an oven or prepared as a stew. The traditional meat for kebabs is lamb, but depending on local tastes and religious prohibitions, other meats such as beef, goat, chicken, pork, or fish are also used.

Types of Kebabs

Shish Kebab

Shish kebab is a popular type of kebab made with cubes of meat, often lamb, grilled on a skewer. The term "shish" means skewer in Turkish, and "kebab" means grilled meat. Shish kebabs are often served with vegetables such as bell peppers, onions, and tomatoes.

Doner Kebab

Doner kebab is a type of kebab made of meat cooked on a vertical rotisserie. The outer layer of the meat is sliced off as it cooks. Doner kebabs are commonly served in a flatbread such as pita or lavash, with salad and sauces.

Adana Kebab

Adana kebab is a spicy minced meat kebab from the city of Adana, Turkey. It is traditionally made from hand-minced lamb meat mixed with tail fat and red pepper flakes, then mounted on a wide iron skewer and grilled over charcoal.

Kofta Kebab

Kofta kebab consists of minced or ground meat, usually beef or lamb, mixed with spices and onions. The mixture is shaped into balls or patties, or pressed onto skewers and grilled.

Seekh Kebab

Seekh kebab is a South Asian kebab made with spiced minced or ground meat, usually lamb, beef, or chicken, formed into cylinders on skewers and grilled.

Chapli Kebab

Chapli kebab is a minced meat patty originating from the Pashtun cuisine. It is made from ground beef or mutton, and is a popular street food in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Souvlaki

Souvlaki is a popular Greek fast food consisting of small pieces of meat and sometimes vegetables grilled on a skewer. It is often served with pita bread, fried potatoes, lemon, and sauces.

Satay

Satay is a Southeast Asian dish of seasoned, skewered, and grilled meat, served with a sauce. It is a popular dish in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand.
